May 28th is Menstrual Hygiene Day. To recognize this incredibly important movement, Kt is partnering with PERIOD— a youth-fueled nonprofit that champions menstrual equity and distributes period products all across North America. Their goal? To end period poverty and stigma through service, education and advocacy.
In 2020, PERIOD donated over 5 million menstrual products to menstruators in need. And with your help, we’re so proud to be adding to that in 2021.
For every order in May, Kt will donate a pair of our Period-Proof Underwear to PERIOD so they can distribute them to young people who don’t have access to period products. Our goal this month is 10,000 pairs of Period-Proof Underwear. Let’s do this together.
If you’ve never heard of Menstrual Hygiene Day— that’s okay! Kt will be breaking it down all throughout the month of May. The aim of MHD is quite simple: it’s a day to break the silence and raise awareness of period health all across the globe.
Menstrual health and wellness is affected by all kinds of things. Some of us are incredibly lucky that we have access to education about our bodies, running water and period products that help us manage our time of the month. These are aspects of care that allow us to continue going about our day, even when we’re bleeding.
On any given day, 800 million people are menstruating all over the world. Not all of these people have access to care that makes having their period a safe and accessible experience. And this has only heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a study done by Plan Canada, they found that now more than ever, menstruating people experience:
- Less access to products due to shortages and store closures
- Less access to facilities that help them clean and dispose of period products safely
- Higher prices of period products
- Less information about how to manage their period
- Less access and availability of clean water
- Increased stigma around menstruation.
