The International Day of the Girl 2020

We're partnering with Days for Girls to help support menstrual health and equality all around the world.

Sunday, October 11 is The International Day of the Girl. It’s a day to reflect and focus our attention on the needs and challenges that girls face all around the world. It’s a day to invest in safety, education, health, and equal opportunities for girls everywhere. It’s a day to celebrate girl power.

This year, we’re teaming up with Days for Girls— a nonprofit organization that helps people with periods get access to sustainable menstrual hygiene in over 125 countries. From now until Sunday, October 11th, we’ll be donating $1 from every pair of underwear (including the Sleepover Shorts) and Period Kits  bought to Days for Girls. This will help provide menstrual hygiene kits and menstrual health education all across the world.

Days for Girls

Days for Girls

Days for Girls began in 2008, when Founder and CEO Celeste Mergens was working at an orphanage outside of Nairobi, Kenya. While there, she wondered how girls were dealing with their periods. She emailed the Assistant Director of the orphanage to ask, and he responded with “Nothing. They wait in their rooms”.

After learning that girls were sitting on cardboard during the month to help with their period flow, Celeste sprung into action. After years of fine tuning, they created the Days for Girls Kits which include underwear, reusable pads, washable liners, soap and washcloths. The Kits also come complete with a health education guide so girls can learn about their body and cycle, and health and safety while menstruating. While reusable pads and liners are key for Days for Girls, education is super important too. You can read more about the kits, and how to get involved with volunteering here!

Days for Girls

To date, Days for Girls has reached more than 1.7 million women and girls in 125+ countries with their Days for Girls Kits and menstrual health education. Having proper menstruation protection, hygiene and education means girls everywhere can live with dignity and safety during their periods. And that’s what girl power is all about— making sure everyone has equal access to resources that make them thrive, safe and happy.
